About Us

The Alyson Archives truly began to take shape as a result of the Institute for Liberal Arts Digital Scholarship (ILiADS), an intensive, week-long workshop hosted by Davidson in the summer of 2023. This event brought together a team of Davidson faculty, staff, and students who set out to create a means of curating the works produced by Alyson Books.

In spring of 2024, the "Humanities Startup," a Digital Studies course offered at Davidson College, continued to build out this project. Twelve students, one instructor, and several of the college's librarians and archivists collaborated on the site to drastically grow the Archive's offerings, expanding the number of texts that viewers are able to explore on the site while curating exhibits that provide additional contexts surrounding Alyson's works. These exhibits multiply ways in which visitors to the site can learn and interact with the publisher, its publications, its authors, and its history.
